The 7-Point Procurement Checklist for Gates Serpentine Belts and Control Arm Buyers

Mistake #2: Assuming a supplier's "standard" product is the same as what you buy

We once had a supplier substitute a "comparable" belt without asking. The dimensions were close but the tension specs were off. It cost us a weekend and a $1,200 repair. Since then, any substitution requires written approval. One sentence in our policy, and it never happened again.

Mistake #3: Skipping the cost breakdown

The biggest savings we found came from a simple exercise: breaking down every line item in the quote. We eliminated a $60 "expedite fee" that wasn't mentioned until the invoice. Now our RFQ states "no unlisted fees." That single clause saved us roughly $400 in the first year.
